Urinary Saturation and Urolithiasis

چکیده
Initiation and Growth of Uroliths Urolith formation, dissolution, and prevention involve complex physical processes. Major factors include: 1) supersaturation resulting in crystal formation, 2) effects of inhibitors of crystallization and inhibitors of crystal aggregation and growth, 3) crystalloid complexors, 4) effects of promoters of crystal aggregation and growth, and 5) effects of non-crystalline matrix.(Finlayson 1978; Coe and Parks 1988; Brown and Purich 1992; Bartges, Osborne et al. 1999)

24-HOUR URINARY CALCIUM EVALUATION IN A HEALTHY POPULATION SAMPLE AND IN PATIENTS WITH UROLITHIASIS
A study was designed to evaluate the normal value of 24 hr urinary calcium levels in the city of Yazd. The average urinary excretion of calcium in a sample of 329 persons randomly selected was 232 mg/day, while patients with a history of recurrent urolithiasis excreted 20X mg/day. There is evidence which shows that more important factors than the amount of urinary calcium exist which influe...

Thirty-six patients with recurrent calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis were selected from the stone clinic. Fourteen were normocalcemic and had normal daily urinary calcium excretion. Among 22 patients with idiopathic hypercalciuria, 10 received thiazide diuretics for the prevention of new stone formation. Single-voided urine samples were collected at the outpatient clinic and 24-hour urine at the ...
متن کاملUrolithiasis – do ureaplasmas play a role in etiology.
Background and Objective: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by urease-producing organisms, including ureaplasmas may contribute to the formation of urolithiasis. We aimed to determine the frequency of U. parvum and U. urealyticum among urology hospital patients with urinary stones. Methods: The study group included 30 men with urolithiasis. Urine samples were examined routinely for bacte...
متن کاملEffects of sodium citrate, potassium citrate, and citric acid in preventing experimental calcium oxalate urolithiasis in rats.
Male Wistar-strain rats which had been fed a glycolic-acid diet developed severe nephrocalcinosis with urinary calculi within 4 weeks. Rats fed the same diet with citrate salts added had, however, either slight or no nephrocalcinosis without any stones in the urinary system. Nephrocalcinosis intermediate between those in the citrate groups and the glycolic-acid group, with some urinary calculi,...

Urinary stone disease is global problem and is due to alteration in the normal crystallization environment of urine in the urinary tract systems. Major factors responsible for crystal formation are super-saturation of Ca salts and level of crystallization inhibitors (Citrate & Phytate). Excessive citrate intake makes the urine more alkaline (pH between 6 and 7). This can be achieved by oral adm...
